Fourth Graders with State Representative Jason Kander on their recent field trip to Jefferson City!
No Such Thing As Normal
St.
Peter's 5th grade class presented a very special play on Wednesday, April
4th. "No Such Thing As Normal" is a musical about autism*. The purpose of
the play is to help children become more aware of autism and learn how to be
more understanding of their peers who are on the autism spectrum. "No Such
Thing" comes to us through the Jellybean Conspiracy, a project founded in
2001 by Dr. Howard Martin and headquartered in the KC metro area. Back in
2006, two of our first FIRE (Foundation for Inclusive Religious Education)
students, Austin Dearth and Nicholas Costanzo - both '07 - were in a
production of the two-act musical, "The Jellybean Conspiracy Show." This
musical offers thoughtful perspectives about persons with disabilities and
Down Syndrome.
Last week's production by our 5th graders is just one more way in which St.
Peter's School genuinely embraces inclusive education. Our show was covered
by the Kansas City Star, which published a
large article on April 11. Kudos to
our 5th grade class and the adults who helped them put on this great show!

and Lyrics by Gaby Lucas; Original concept by Dr. Howard Martin and Kit
Bardwell. You can find out more about the work of The Jellybean Conspiracy
